The Yew Tree Sports and Social Club will officially be demolished, we can announce.
Despite petitioning by the Regeneration Forum a planning application has been approved for 20 houses and there is the possibility of selling land around the site for development – that’s the back of the club, along the Brooklands and the playing fields.
The contents of documents seen by The WS5 will be upheld following this approval in which Galliford will develop 20 homes. It is believed the club will be demolished within weeks.

Our beloved social club is facing demolition
Residents wanted more social opportunities and amenities for all, one of them Lynne Wiltshire:
More houses, less amenities just doesn’t equate. There is just no consideration for the residents and tenents on Yew Tree and Tame Bridge; we have no quality of life now, thanks to Sandwell Council. Where is all the money going from all the land they are selling off? Into someone’s personal bank account I bet.
Darryl Magher, Chair of the Yew Tree Regeneration Forum, discloses the sheer volume of signatures obtained but admits the total is below the 1,400 previously thought:
Petitions are far from silly … they are a way to get the council to see the community need. We had 1,198 signatures!

Hers is an opportunity for someone to challenge the duty to consult that it appears has not been met. What about the governments Localsm agenda, are local people not supposed to be having the say now! If nobody says anything and challenges this it will just go ahead.
Localism agenda? The council or planners got rid of the club because it was a load of rubbish, rundown and no trade…. if u cant even get a manager or managers who can make money then what u gonna do? replace them and keep it going to get rid of it for something else??? I was at the clyb not long back and my god its a hell hole… or WAS should I say. Sure, people were lovely and I used to know old friends there and meet up but it was dead and going downhil…. on the other hand I spose we could have done it up, like refurbished it but would that have cost more? Remember ur dealin with people who prob wanna do summut to fulfil their own interest/line pockets………………
